MLH Community Care and Support Fundraising Day was a big success for Guide Dogs UK
MLH Community Care and Support would like to thank everyone who supported them at their fundraising day at Chester le Street Riverside on August 15th. After almost 2 days of rain, volunteers from MLH Community Care and Support and National Citizens Service were blessed with a sunny day to raise money and awareness for Guide Dogs UK.
Our many visitors enjoyed varied attractions, which included the very popular splash pool, fair and homemade cakes. Laura and Ashleigh organised Visual Challenges, which were enjoyed by adults and children, who had to carry out activities blindfolded. Tombola was organised by Jess and her team of Volunteers at National Citizens Services, and we had many other things to do which everyone seemed to enjoy. Pippa from Guide Dogs UK came along with special guests Lloyd, Heston, Diesel, and Caesar so that everyone could Meet the Pups. These special dogs will one day be a lifeline and companion for someone who is visually impaired.
We decided to raise money and awareness for Guide Dogs UK after two of our members made us realise just how important guide dogs are and what a difference they make to someone who is visually impaired. The waiting list for a Guide Dog in this area is currently 35 and training costs a little over £32,000 for one Guide Dog, so we were delighted , that with so many people coming out so support us we managed to raise £550 on the day with more donations coming in from our ‘Just Giving’ site.
MLH Community Care and Support offer support to help those with physical and mental disabilities to enable them to get out into the community and carry out activities which most of us take for granted. If you know someone who could benefit from our help, then we’d be happy to discuss what we can do.
We would like to offer huge thanks to everyone who came along and supported us and donated on the day, those who continue to donate online and special thanks to MLH Community Care and Support and volunteers from NCS who all gave their time to help out and make it such a special day.
